We Drove Into a Tropical Storm to See Zakk Wylde | Ep #46

In this Episode

A rock & roll road trip to Houston to see Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society sounded like a great idea.

Then a tropical storm decided to head toward Houston at the same damn time.

In episode 46 of I’m Leaving Right After This Drink: Rock & Roll, Whiskey and Other Stories, Tits McGee and I hit the road for Texas to see Black Label Society, Zakk Sabbath and Dark Chapel — only to discover a tropical storm was rolling in and the show had been postponed. Somehow, everything worked out.

And the trip was worth it.

I got another chance to hang with Zakk, who got a kick out of my Dolly Parton/Black Sabbath shirt, and somehow that turned into a conversation about the ultimate question: Vol. 4 or Master of Reality — which Black Sabbath album are you taking to a desert island?

We also talk about the killer Tampa show with Tyler Bryant, Black Stone Cherry and Buckcherry, including meeting Tyler, talking to him about coming on the podcast, and why Black Stone Cherry is one hell of a band to have to follow.

Plus: shitty rental cars, cheap concert tickets, Houston, road-trip stupidity, a co-pilot who couldn’t quite stay awake for the entire ride home, and plenty of rock & roll along the way.

If you love concerts, guitars, road trips and rock & roll stories, grab a drink and hang out.
