How the hell was Brother Cane not a bigger band?
I was driving home the other day when “That Don’t Satisfy Me” came on, and it sent me down a Brother Cane rabbit hole.
These guys had the songs, the talent, and the radio airplay. I know because I was one of the guys playing their music on the radio! So why didn’t all that success translate into bigger album sales?
In this episode of I’m Leaving Right After This Drink, I’m looking back at Brother Cane’s incredible debut album, seeing them live in St. Louis, a memorable show with Slash’s Snakepit at Mississippi Nights, and interviewing Damon Johnson during my MFNRocks.com days.
I’m also talking about their new album, Magnolia Medicine, including the Gary Rossington tribute “Prince Charming,” and how Damon Johnson’s career eventually connected me to a great conversation with Alice Cooper.
More than 30 years later, I still think Brother Cane should’ve been HUGE.
What band do YOU think deserved to be much bigger than they were? Drop it in the comments!
Grab a drink, pull up a stool, and enjoy another round.
